Evolve Patent on Inventing the Electric Skateboard – Really ??? Hmmm.. Andrew Penman Vlog No. 183
Frankly, I don’t see this as just another Patent … I actually see this as a very concerning issue for our Electric Skateboard Industry and for our freedom of choice. As an experienced YouTube Reviewer I have a an huge responsibility to ensuring people understand the full story … full transparency and know what the hell is going on …. in this case Conglomerates and large players should never ever have this kind of place on our Esk8 Design Industry… nor have a monopoly on where you can and can’t buy your EBoards from.
This has so many ramifications it beggars disbelief…and on so many levels that goes well beyond what people think or feel about this…..and if its right or wrong. This is something that needs to be nipped in the bud, tested through the courts or literally we’re all going to have to pay the price for this.
Personally I think this will avail in the most incredible negativity for Evolve and do a tremendous amount of collateral damage one could never expect to it’s brand name and branding generally … and trust me …that’s something you can never undo …. I can’t see Evolve getting out of this unscathed ….
The Patent .. ok ….. let’s be clear here ….is for the “whole electric skateboard” make no mistake there, it’s not for a “mould” or “electronics enclosure setup” and it’s not for a Carbon deck…. In fact the word “Carbon” it’s only mentioned three times in the whole Patent and two of those times have the word “maybe” and “probably” in front of it…. That’s either very clever wording to protect Evolve or very inexperienced wording ….I’m certainly qualified to read these things and find faults …. Frankly it actually has enough holes in it you could drive 15 x Chinese Electric Skateboards delivery trucks through it ….
Don’t get me wrong, I would be totally pissed if someone stole my mould design … they’re about $75,000 for a mould …and look I get where Jeff’s coming from. However… how can you possibly create a different style deck when the standard Eskateboard has a deck cutaway at each end for wheel bite and truck clearance … and now all have a drop-down at each end … so seriously … how can you really do anything else in terms of design Om gosh …this is the only design possible…
Notwithstanding, Simon Anderson who invented the three fin thruster design in 1981 in my other sport industry, Surfing ….was well advised against trying to Patent / Copyright his “Thruster 3” (three fin thruster design) because it’s was already attached to a previous known invention a “Surfboard” I think Evolve have been clearly ill-advised …..this coukd in fact may bring the whole Evolve Castle down… and yes that would kind of be a shame…. But … that’s the price one pays when attaining a more capitalist attitude. ….has anyone heard of the term “tall poppy syndrome” … alive and well here in Australia….hmmm .. watch this space Cheers Andrew ⚔️
