Dolphins are one of the most amazing creatives on planet Earth. They are kind, smart and friendly. They are interested in us, and we as humans are very interested in them.
CONTRIBUTORS – THANK YOU
Honey the Dolphin was captured in Taiji’s brutal drive hunts in 2005 for “life” in captivity. She, along with 46 penguins and hundreds of fish and reptiles made their way to the Inubousaki Marine Park where they would spend the rest of their life.
In late 2018, the Inubousaki Marine Park in Japan’s Chiba prefecture was shut down due to a lack of attendance. A lot of the animals and mammals within the park were also left to rot – including three other dolphins who have died, hundreds of penguins with only a fraction of them still alive, fish and various reptiles whose status is unknown
As you can see from this drone video taken earlier this year and uploaded to YouTube, Honey the Dolphin only has access to a very small and contaminated pool – with o shelter, no fresh water and nothing to motivate her.
It has been documented that a paid worker of the park does in fact feed Honey the Dolphin and the remaining penguins – however that’s it. No interaction, no other help and no treatment of their cages. Here’s a video of what looks like the paid worker going in and seeing Honey the Dolphin. And if you have a soft heart, you may find this distressing. She’s looking very depressed, sad and lonely – swimming in filthy water.
Nose and fins cracked due to no shelter from the sun.
Right now honey and the penguins are still there. Almost a year has passed since the marine park was abandoned.
I do have some good and bad news too. Good news is there are reports that the marine park will open up again at the end of 2019 and the abandoned marine animal enclosures will get the detailed clean they need. That’s as good as it gets for good news. The bad news is the enclosures are unlikely to get any upgrades – any new shelter and increase in their space.
The marine park has also apparently been sold too which includes honey and the penguins in the sale. It’s been rumoured that the new owners want to breed honey the dolphin and ship both her and the penguins to China.
There really isn’t a bright future for honey and the penguins. Watch to learn more.
